All-party meet to evolve consensus on Land Acquisition Bill

The government has convened an all-party meeting in New Delhi today to evolve a consensus on the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill 2011.

The Bill seeks to address problems of industry regarding Acquistion of Land for setting up of projects.

The Bill provides for Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Settlement of displaced people and proposes to replace the Land Acquisition Act, 1894.

The first all-party meet on the issue on the 9th of this month failed to iron out differences between the government and BJP, Samajwadi Party and the Left Front. Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has been reaching out to leaders of various political parties to sort out areas of disagreement.
