India to China: Maintain earlier status quo in Ladakh

India has asked China to maintain earlier status quo in Ladakh. It expressed the hope that differences on perceptions of the line of actual control (LAC) would be resolved peacefully under existing agreements. Replying to questions by newsmen in New Delhi today, External affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbarrudin said, the ongoing incident was a localized one and such face to face situations due to differering perceptions on the LAC have been resolved peacefully in the past. He also said, the India-China border areas have continued to remain peaceful.

He said, a flag meeting between the local military commanders was held to resolve the situation.
AIR correspondent reports, Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai had expressed India's concern to Chinese Ambassador Wei Wei stressing on the need for resolving the issue. Senior MEA official, heading the India-China joint working mechanism to deal with issues on the boundary, also spoke to his counterpart in Beijing last week, emphasizing on the need to resolve the issue.
