NHRC seeks report from Chhattisgarh about 200 tribals becoming homeless

The National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) issued a notice to the Chattisgarh government on a report that about 200 tribals have become homeless when the state government officials destroyed their huts in Kawardah District.

Taking a suo motu cognizance of a media reports, the commission has asked the Chief Secretary of state to submit a report within four weeks in this regard.

Allegedly, a team of 20 forest guards and the police reportedly raided the area in the District and razed to the ground the huts on 18th of last month in violation of the Forest Rights Act.

As a result, the tribals were sleeping in the open on plastic sheets spread over their destroyed huts.
