Govt denies setting up of any State Reorganisation Commission

The government denied the setting up of any State Reorganization Commission. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh said creation of a new State has wide ramifications and direct bearing on the country’s federal structure.

The Centre moves in the matter only when there is a broad consensus in the parent State. All relevant factors are considered before any new State is formed, he said. The Minister’s response came when a member referred to the demands for carving out new States in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
